Killed in coal mine cave-in.
His name was misspelled on the mine monument as Sexton.
Quote from FindAGrave Memorial:
“Uncle John was killed in a tragic coal mine accident. His body was never recovered and was entombed in the mine.
Copy of Resoultion dated Sept. 5, 1906 sent to John's family, from United Mine Worker of America, Local Union No. 2070, Dow, Indian Territory, Oklahoma.
Wheres as it has pleased our allwise ruler of the universe to call from our midst our beloved brother John Saxton [sic], who came to his death by a fall of rock in Milby & Dow Mine No. 2 on Aug. 21st, 1906. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss:
Therefore be it resolved:
That we the members of Local 2070 U.M.W.A extend our heartfelt sympathy to the deceased brothers' wife and children in their hour of sorrow.
And be it farther resolved:
That as a token of respect our charter be draped in mourning for a period of thirty days and that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the deceased family and a copy be spread upon the records of this local and a copy be sent to the Mine Workers Journal for publication.
