Notes from Sue Owen:
Hubert Miller Owen: The youngest of 11 children, grew up in Tennessee. The family story is that during the depression, he and a friend were “running moonshine” and needed some tires, so they stole some from a “widow woman”, and the sheriff came to his house to arrest him. When the sheriff was observed coming up the road, Hubert went out the back door, and decided it was time to move to Oklahoma. He was known to be an excellent carpenter and cabinetmaker. He served in as a mechanic in the infantry from 1918 to 1919. Hubert saw action in signicant battles in Ypres, Belgium. He was discharged with the rank of sergeant, and retumed to Norman, Oklahoma.
